El Al Airlines, which flies three times weekly from Boston to Tel Aviv, has announced an aircraft change for the route. The airline currently operates a Boeing 777-200ER on the route, however, as of December 15, 2019, the airline will use the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner on the route instead. This represents a decrease in capacity between the two cities, as the Boeing 777-200ER has 279 seats, as opposed to the Boeing 787-8's 238 seats. Source:  www.routesonline.com

Avianca Holdings, the parent company of Avianca and Avianca El Salvador, is undergoing restructuring in order to curb losses as a company. Unfortunately, as part of the restructuring, they are terminating 11 medium haul routes. Therefore, as of May 1, 2019, Avianca will stop flying from Boston to Bogota, and as of June 1, 2019, Avianca El Salvador will stop flying from Boston to El Salvador. This is unfortunate because the routes are being terminated mostly due to financial issues of the airline and not a poor load factor. For fairly new routes, both had been doing fairly well, averaging between 80-90%. Hopefully, if Avianca solves their economic issues, they will eventually consider relaunching the routes.

Today, March 31, 2019, was certainly an eventful day at Boston Logan. As the winter airline schedule flipped to the summer schedule, Boston saw a plethora of new routes. KLM Royal Dutch Airlines launched their 3x weekly flight from Amsterdam. This flight is in addition to Delta's return to its summer schedule which includes 2x daily flights from Amsterdam as opposed to the single daily flight from Amsterdam during the winter. Additionally, Delta Air Lines has resumed its daily service to Dublin from Boston, the route will fly on a Boeing 757-200 until May 23, 2019, when the flight will switch to a Boeing 767-300ER. Also, SAS has resumed its seasonal service to Boston. Norwegian Airlines launched flights to Boston to Rome-Fiumicino Airport. This service is in addition to its service from London, Paris, and their upcoming flights to Madrid. Massport has released statistics for 2018, which proved to be a record year for Boston in many ways. In 2018 Logan Airport had 40,941,925 passengers compared to 38,412,419 passengers in 2017. This represents a 6.6% increase in passengers from 2017. It is amazing to think that Boston eclipsed 40 million passengers considering the airport hit 30 million passengers in 2013. Of the 40.9 million passengers, 7,583,887 passengers were on international flights compared to 7,199,595 passengers in 2017. This represents a 5.3% growth in international passengers in a year. This also means that international passengers represented 18.5% of travelers from Boston Logan Airport. The growth that Boston has achieved is truly incredible, hopefully there is more to come!

It is official! Royal Air Maroc will add service to Boston. Beginning June 22, 2019, Royal Air Maroc, Morocco's flag carrier airline, will fly three times weekly on a Boeing 787-8. The flights will depart Casablanca at 17:05 local time and will arrive in Boston at 19:30 local time. The return flight will depart Boston at 21:15, local time, and will arrive in Casablanca at 08:50, local time, the next day. The flight will operate on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays until October 1, 2019, when they will begin flying the route Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. This is Boston's second non-stop flight to Africa, however, the TACV flight to Praia, Cape Verde is only once weekly and offers very limited connection opportunities. Due to Royal Air Maroc's extensive destinations map in Africa, this will be one of the best ways to find connections to other parts of the continent. If you've ever dreamed to travel to Raleigh, North Carolina, right now is probably the best time there has ever been. Just weeks ago Frontier Airlines announced their plans to launch flights from Boston to Raleigh-Durham. Recently, Spirit Airlines, another low-cost airline, has also announced its intention to start flying the route. The airline plans to fly the route daily on an Airbus A319 beginning May 2, 2019. Frontier Airlines is continuing its addition of routes from Boston. A few weeks ago, the airline announced plans to launch service to Boston from Raleigh-Durham and Orlando, now, the airline is back with plans to launch a route between Denver and Boston. The airline has announced it will fly the seasonal route daily, on an Airbus A320, beginning April 30, 2019.
