Virgin Atlantic Emergency Landing

Last night, Thursday, July 4, a Virgin Atlantic flight made an emergency landing at Boston Logan due to a fire on board during a New York to London flight. The initial report blamed the small blaze on a power bank. Luckily, the fire was small, so the plane safely landed and was evacuated with no serious injuries. Source: www.bbc.com

Cape Air Sustainability and Electric Planes

Cape Air has been heavily investing in developing a more ecologically sustainable business, leading to the Environmental Protection Agency awarding the airline the 2011 Environmental Merit Award. The push for a smaller carbon footprint has included everything from the construction of a solar panel arrangement to energy efficiency improvements in the headquarters building.  Now, this push for further improvements has driven to a reported purchase of Alice aircraft, a new electric plane made by Eviation and unveiled at the Paris Air Show.         I am quite excited about this development. Although I still have questions about the charging infrastructure, I am excited to see this technological advancement. Given the shorter distances that Cape Air flies from Boston Logan, range likely will not be an issue. Hopefully these aircraft prove to be reliable and safe, paving the way for others, such as the upcoming hybrid Airbus plane.         Alice still needs to pass certification b
