Boston vs. JFK Winter Storm

The  New York Times  released a very interesting article about why Boston was able to cope with the January Bomb Cyclone significantly better than JFK Airport. Boston handled it relatively well with delays and cancelations one day and being on a regular schedule the next, while JFK was struggling with more and more flights being delayed for several days.

Here is a Boeing 757-200 of Icelandair landing in Boston after its flight from Keflavík Airport in Iceland. The plane has the registration TF-ISV and is named Grábrók. Icelandair names all of its planes after Icelandic volcanoes. The plane had its first flight in June 1999.

Other Terminal E Expansion Proposals

Image
More about Boston Logan's Terminal Expansion. I have found  this website  from KPF showing their proposition for the Terminal E Expansion. I really like the design by AECOM which was selected, but I like the design by KPF even more. I think that the wooden interior design and overall appearance would fit in more with the current Terminal E, compared to the huge difference between the old part of Terminal E and the bright red roof of the future new part of Terminal E. Here are some images of the design by KPF.

Additional Images of Terminal E Expansion

More renderings of the Terminal E expansion have been posted on  Boston Globe.  The interior looks absolutely stunning. All images are from the Boston Globe and are not mine.

Terminal E Expansion

Image
For many years Massport has been pushing to expand Boston Logan's International Terminal. Terminal E was constructed in 1974 with 12 gates and was meant to accommodate 1.5 million passengers a year, but last year close to 6 million people passed through the same terminal, four times more than it was designed to handle. This has resulted in a very crowded terminal and long lines for security and customs and border protection. Although some upgrades were implemented to speed up security and customs to help in the short term, it is clear that Boston Logan must expand to cope with the increased traffic, to address concerns such as a lack of gates. Yesterday, more information was released about the expansion. In an article from  the Boston Globe , it describes how Massport has selected AECOM and luis vidal+ architects to remodel Terminal E. Their futuristic design is "a wave-like roof in bright red and shaped to follow the path of the sun. North-facing skylights 'in the for

Air France Adjusts Boston Service

Air France has announced that this year they will continue flying the Boeing 787-9 to Boston on a daily basis until June 17, 2018, after which they will switch to have 2 flights a day between the two cities with one on a Boeing 777-200ER, and one on an Airbus A330-200. This is different from last year where Air France operated the Boeing 787-9 until March and then used a Boeing 777-200ER until June before adding the extra A330-200 flight for the summer. Delta adds service to New Orleans

Delta is continuing its expansion from Boston Logan International Airport, with the ultimate goal of getting to 150 flights per day from Boston. Today, February 10, 2018, Delta Connection is adding flights to New Orleans from Boston on an Embraer 175 of Republic Airline. The route will be operated on Saturdays and Sundays. This will be Boston's fourth airline that will fly the route. Service to New Orleans from Boston is now offered by Delta Connection, JetBlue Airways, Southwest Airlines and Spirit Airlines. Although I am happy to see additional flights from Boston, I really wonder if there is actually enough traffic to justify so many flights between the cities. For more information go  here.

Sichuan Airlines

Today, an interesting article came out from Sichuan Airlines, an airline in China that operates mostly from Chengdu Airport. The author discussed how Sichuan Airlines had a made an order for 10 A350-900 to develop international routes, long-haul routes in Europe, North America and Africa. It stated they are interested to add service to many cities such as Cairo, Copenhagen, and Boston in 2018. I would be very surprised if the airline does decide to add service to Boston from Chengdu. The Boston to Asia market has flourished in the last couple of years, but major cities in the United States such as Los Angeles and New York have received service from Chengdu only last year and I find it very hard to believe that the next logical destination from Chengdu will be Boston. Especially with it being very common for an airline to give empty promises about initiating service, I don't see it happening anytime soon, but I would love being proven wrong by the airline. Copa Airlines increases frequency

Copa Airlines, the flag carrier of Panama, currently flies daily to Boston Logan Airport using the Boeing 737-800. Starting this week Copa will increase its frequency to Boston by adding an additional four flights a week. That means there will be 11 weekly flights to Boston from Panama-Tocumen Airport. The additional flights will begin Monday, February 5th, 2018. The second daily flight will be operated on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. This is a great increase for Boston because this will allow more connectivity to Central and South America. More information  here.

Azores Airlines A310 Update

Image
Although the Azores Airlines A321neo was scheduled to perform its flight to Boston from Ponta Delgada on January 12, 2018, a number of issues forced the airline to continue flying the A310 until today, when they finally brought the new A321neo. On the A321neo they have a new livery which I do not like, I think their old one is much better. Below is a photo of the new livery on the A321neo. Below is a photo the old livery on the A310. Neither pictures are mine. The pictures were found online on the following websites. Azores Airlines A321neo Azores Airlines A310

Recently Lufthansa's new livery, scheduled to be announced February 7, 2018, was leaked; it is supposed to look like this.  The grey cheatline and the yellow from the symbol have been removed.                                                     I personally prefer the old livery more and am sad that the yellow was removed, but am very glad that the classic goose was not removed. In my opinion, the new livery is significantly more simple than the previous one.  In honor of this change here is a Lufthansa A350-900XWB from Munich landing in Boston.
