Air Europa Boston Flights

Last summer, Air Europa, inaugurated seasonal flights from Madrid to Boston operating on an A330-200 three times a week from June 14, 2017, to September 8, 2017. This allowed Boston to have both Air Europa and Iberia operate the route. Unfortunately, Air Europa has been removed from the list of airlines on Massport's Logan Website, indicating that Air Europa decided to not return to Boston this summer after having very low load factors on it's flights to and from Boston last summer. Although it is unfortunate, I am not surprised, I do not think that the Boston to Madrid market is large enough to warrant two airlines to fly the route. For Iberia, this is a large victory as they will gain a complete monopoly on the market again. Massport's List of Airlines

Primera Air Cancels Boston-Birmingham

Primera Air, the low-cost airline expected to start services to Boston in the summer of 2018, has announced that they are canceling the planned launch of service between Birmingham, UK, and Boston, due to a lack of demand. The route which was scheduled to begin June 22, 2018, was going to be operated 4 times a week by an A321neo. Primera Air is still expecting to begin flights to London-Stansted and Paris-Charles de Gaulle this summer, but unfortunately, Birmingham has been cut, before it began. Of the 38 million passengers at Logan in 2017, 7,199,595 passengers flew internationally compared to 6,587,473 international passengers in 2016, which represents a 9.3% increase. Every continent Boston Logan has flights to saw an increase in passengers numbers except the Middle East which saw a small decline. South America saw 30,385 passengers from Boston in 2017, which is huge considering fli

Occasionally, I will post a photo of a plane landing at Boston that I took. Here is a Japan Airlines Boeing 787-9 landing in Boston after its flight from Tokyo-Narita Airport.

TACV Returns

In 2015 a little-known company named TACV terminated its flights to Boston Logan International Airport and moved their flights over to T.F. Green Airport in Providence, Rhode Island, thus severing Boston Logan's only link to Africa. TACV is the national airline of Cape Verde, a country made of 10 islands off the coast of Africa, which has a sizeable diaspora in the New England region. Today, January 15, 2018, TACV has restarted its flights to Boston, with the first flight departing at 8:30 AM. This route is flown on a Boeing 757-200 and has a scheduled flight time of 7 hours and 30 minutes. The flights will operate from Praia to Boston every Friday, arriving in Boston at 1:00 PM and depart at 8:30 AM every Monday. The company is trying to open more routes around the world this year, but unfortunately, this flight does come at the expense of their flight to Providence, as that service has been terminated. This is a great addition to Boston Logan that will bring back a link to the A
Today, January 11, 2017, is the last departure of Azores Airlines A310-300, starting tomorrow the flights to and from Boston will be flown on an A321 NEO. Although it is sad that Boston Logan won't get passenger service from this aircraft anymore, FedEx continues to fly it on some cargo routes, but they are also phasing it out. Although no formal announcement has been made, it seems that Avianca El Salvador is interested in beginning flights between San Salvador, the capital of El Salvador, and Boston. TACA used to fly this path but terminated it. In 2013 TACA finished its merger with Avianca and became Avianca El Salvador. In January 2018's Avianca in-flight magazine the President and CEO of Avianca stated that they are beginning flights to Boston from San Salvador this year. It can be found on page 6 of the in-flight magazine found  here.  Avianca started flying Bogota to Boston in June 2017 so it will be interesting to see how they will add this route, and it's great to see TACA back in Boston although with a different name.
Nearly 700 flights have been canceled from Boston Logan because of a snowstorm and strong winds. More info here: cbslocal.com masslive.com
A mechanical issue occurred on an American Airlines flight to Charlotte from Boston on the ground. People reported a smell which sent 4 people to the hospital and forced the airline to take the plane out of service. Hopefully, everyone is okay.
