Monorail and JetBlue New Routes

Lots of news from Boston Logan Airport today. An announcement came from JetBlue about two new routes and an increased service. Boston will receive a new daily service from Boston to Hollywood Burbank Airport on an Airbus A320-200 starting September 5, 2018. The airport is located 12 miles north of Downtown Los Angeles. Additionally, JetBlue will add a seasonal twice-weekly flight to Yampa Valley Airport in Hayden, Colorado on an Airbus A320-200 beginning December 15, 2018. This route is clearly aimed at people traveling to ski/snowboard resorts. Also, JetBlue will add a second daily flight on an Airbus A320-200 from Boston to Long Beach, a JetBlue focus city. I really hope these flights do well from Boston! Another really interesting announcement came from Massport. The company, which runs Logan, will invest $15 million to study the possibility of an Automated People Mover for Boston Logan Airport. The goal of the project is to increase the number of people using public transport to get to and from the airport instead of relying on cars. Currently, only 30% of people get to the airport using public transportation. This would help ease a large amount of the congestion occurring around the terminals, which results in traffic jams. It is estimated the monorail could take 10 years to build and cost over $1 billion. Many airports around the world have monorails to move passengers to and from the airport and this would be very beneficial for the rapidly expanding airport, but it remains to be seen if the monorail could economically be built within the space constraints at Boston Logan Airport.

  1. Regaarding monorail - better late than never, I guess! In fact, most of significant airports (including in US) have had it for years. Buses clearly don't cut it, especially during rush hour.
